Centenary’s story is rooted in a rich Methodist heritage dating to the earliest days of settlement in this part of Kentucky. Methodists began gathering in Shelby County in the late 1700s, laying the foundation for generations of worship, service, and community life.
One defining chapter came in December 1978, when the church burned to the ground just three days after Christmas. The fire occurred only months after the congregation had invested $80,000 in renovations. Yet the congregation persevered, rebuilt the church, and continued growing into the vibrant downtown community of faith Centenary is today.
